In 2000, I saw a posting in Central Coast Wine Services (CCWS) for Santa Barbara County Syrah from the Larner Vineyard for sale. It was like a posting in a guitar center, ‘Drummer Needed.’ I was passionate about wine but had never made it myself - nonetheless, I tore off a phone number and took a chance. So did they. That action embraced the entrepreneurial spirit of taking a leap of faith and embarking on an adventure. Tasting Notes
A cooler year lends to a meaty and savory take on this coastal Syrah. Suave, supple and rich notes are consistent from aromatics to the palate. Our first vintage working with the young Ballard Ranch, in addition to the famed Larner, and the vineyard that incepted this wine in 2020: Nolan. Black cherries, blackberry reduction, smoked plums, new leather, grilled meats, sweet tobacco, au jus, creamy vanilla, and melted dark chocolate. Plush, round mouth feel.

Winemaker Notes
5% whole cluster fermented in concrete tanks, and small, open-top bins, spending between 20-45 days on the skins with a combination of pump-overs and punch-downs during cold soak and fermentation. Aged 16 months in 265-liter barriques, 45% new.
