2022 L'Ange Rouge
L’Ange Rouge, meaning “The Red Angel,” is dedicated to Mac’s grandmother who fittingly had a full head of red hair. This blend is meant to showcase the femininity of Grenache. Alta Mesa Grenache is blended with Grenache from Larner Vineyard showcasing the depth of this varietal. MourveĢdre from Alta Mesa provides the balance.
Vinification:
50% whole cluster fermented in concrete tanks, and small, open-top bins, spending between 20-45 days on the skins with a combination of pump-overs and punch-downs during cold soak and fermentation. Aged 10 months; Grenache in neutral 500-liter puncheons, Syrah and Mourvedre in neutral 265-liter barriques.
Tasting Notes:
Black cherry cola, strawberry-rhubarb pie, cranberry preserves, dried-orange peel, rose petal potpourri, sweet tobacco, sandalwood incense, and Chinese five spice. Mid-palate driven, with a broad fruit core, that ripples outward to a lush, floral, and savory finish.
