2021 Estate Cuvée
Our Estate features high elevation, dynamic, diverse terrains, and extraordinarily steep hillsides, which yield a wine rife with complexities and balance. Ample north and east-facing vine exposures ensure that our ripe California fruit flavors are driven by mouthwatering freshness.
Vinification:
10% whole cluster fermented in small, open-top bins and concrete tanks, spending between 20-40 days on skins, with a combination of pumpovers and punchdowns during cold soak and fermentation. Aged 20 months in neutral 500-liter puncheons and 265-L barriques, 60% of which were new.
Tasting Notes:
Black fruits, Luxardo cherries, pomegranate reduction, sea-salt black licorice, coffee-rubbed steak, caramelized lardons, leather, cardamom, all framed atop a dense, concentrated, broad mouthfeel, deceptively lively, that never feels heavy-handed.
Scores:
94 Points, Wine Enthusiast
94 Points, Robert Parker - "It has complex, continually unfurling aromas that segue from flint and pencil shavings to blackcurrant, coffee beans, aniseed, sage, and thyme. The full-bodied palate features powerful, concentrated, savory fruit. It has firm, rounded tannins, focused acidity, and a long, iron-laced finish. It's bold and dense without feeling over-extracted or cumbersome and will benefit from 3-5 years in bottle."
