2019 L'Ange Rouge Magnum

2019 L'Ange Rouge Magnum

L’Ange Rouge, meaning “The Red Angel,” is dedicated to Mac’s grandmother who fittingly had a full head of red hair. This blend is meant to showcase the femininity of Grenache. Alta Mesa Grenache is blended with Grenache from Larner Vineyard showcases the depth of this varietal. Mourvèdre from Alta Mesa provides the balance.

VINIFICATION

The components of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre were fermented in small open-top bins and concrete tanks, 80% whole clusters included. The wine spent 20-35 days on the skins with a combination of pump-overs and punch downs. Aged 16 months; Grenache in neutral 500-liter puncheons,

Syrah in 265-liter barriques and Mourvèdre in 350-liter cognacs.

TASTING NOTES

Palate: dried cherries, herb liquor, candied orange peel, sweet tobacco, worn leather, and macerated wild strawberries. Ultra-fine yet firm tannins, and sweet and savory finish.
