2017 Les Galets
26 acres of the 620 acres Laetitia Vineyard is planted to Syrah in one of the coolest growing regions in the state; a mere 4 miles from the ocean. Calcareous and volcanic soils on a south-facing slope combine to produce grapes that yield supple and concentrated wines.
VINIFICATION
30% whole cluster fermented in concrete and small, open-top bins, and spent 15-30 days on skins with a combination of pump-overs and punch-downs during fermentation. Aged 18 months in 265 and 228-liter barriques, 35% new oak.
TASTING NOTES
Blueberry, sweet pipe tobacco, shade-grown coffee, charred tri-tip, polished leather, brined couchillo olives, cardamom, fresh Thai pepper, and wood-grilled plums. Rich and densely packed with a briny, mineral-laced finish.
